Help Improve Health

Research studies help discover new treatments to improve many people’s quality of life.

Understanding Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are research studies that help develop new methods to treat various diseases, and find out if a new treatment is safe and effective.

To assess if a treatment works, researchers compare the results of the people who received said treatment with those who did not receive it.

These studies are led by a Certified Medical Doctor who is called the Principal Investigator. They work together with a research team that includes doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Besides, clinical trials are overseen by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) which is a committee that reviews research proposals and makes sure they are ethical, legal, and follow all regulations.

The IRB also ensures that participants in clinical trials have been informed about risks, benefits, and alternatives to participation.

Why are Clinical Trials important?

Clinical trials are essential in the process of developing new drugs, since they are a reliable way to test the safety and effectiveness of a drug before it is released to the public.

These studies are led by a Certified Medical Doctor who is called the Principal Investigator. They work together with a research team that includes doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

What Our Patients Say

Carmen

Destiny's team goes above and beyond what is expected.  I got great care and attention from everyone.

Gina

Great professionals, they care for their patients, so attentive.

Edgar

I think more people should know how important a clinical trial is for everyone and how convenient it is for oneself.

How is the process of a Clinical Trial?

Clinical trials are conducted in phases:

Phase I

The drug or treatment is tested on a small group of people for the first time in order to find out if it is safe and well tolerated.

Phase II

Once the drug has been successfully trialed in the phase I, it is tested again on a larger group of people to assess its effectiveness and further evaluate its safety.

Phase III

If the Phase II shows that the benefits of the drug or treatment outweigh the side effects, it is then tested in a Phase III trial. Now the drug is given to many participants to confirm its effectiveness and safety, and monitor side effects.

Phase IV

After the drug is approved by the FDA, researchers assess its safety in the general population, and collect additional information such as its risks and benefits.
